California Gas Prices Compared to the rest Of The Nation

The average price of gas in California is currently $6.17 per gallon for premium and $5.82 for regular, according to AAA. The national average for regular is $4.16. According to AAA, California has the highest prices in the nation, with prices bumping up a few cents - just in the past week. Gas has gone up a whole dollar in less than a month. BART reports an increase in passengers. Daily riders on BART is up about 30 percent this month with some of the biggest increases in passenger traffic, happening on weekends.
Russia is the third-largest supplier of oil in the world, behind them are the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. Russia produces 12% of the world’s oil supply, including 8% of the U.S.’s supply.
So for California not only do they deal with the rising gas prices due to the war they also have to deal with all the tax hikes that have been put on gas in the past couple of years. Due to new energy policies, Californians are paying about 34% more than the national average.
California gas prices are higher than the national average because of taxes and environmental laws and where they are located. California has a very high pollution rate which requires a special blend of gasoline to reduce the pollution.
On April 12 2022 Joe Biden announced that gas containing 15% ethanol will be allowed across our nation's gas stations this summer. Environmental Protection Agency does currently have a regulation that prevents E15 gas from being used between June 1st and September 15th of every year. This year they're going to issue a waiver to put a halt on that to help ease the price at the pumps.
The governor of California has proposed a bill to offer Californians $400 for each of their registered vehicles as a type of gas stimulus to help with the rising gas prices.
